On October 15, 2014, we were pleased to host a reception for the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ) and their international delegates. From Argentina to Zambia, judges from 38 different countries came to sunny San Diego to attend the NAWJ 36th Annual Conference: Protecting and Advancing Meaningful Access to Justice. The conference attracted many big names in the legal field such as Professor Anita Hill, Janet Napolitano, President, University of California, and Justice Sonia Sotomayor, just to name a few.

We are honored that the international judges chose to attend our reception despite their busy schedules. The library was decorated with colorful flags representing the countries of all the judges in attendance. The librarians created an exhibit on international legal systems which was a huge hit with the attendees.

The international judges learned about the county public library system and had a good time networking with judges from other countries. “This conference is a major event for San Diego, our legal community, and the law library,” said Judge Tamila Ipema, conference co-chair with Judge Margie G. Woods. John Adkins, Director of Law Libraries, was “excited to offer our facility to NAWJ for this wonderful event.”
