We recently received a thank you note from Toni G. Atkins, Speaker Emeritus, for serving as a drop off location during the Socks For Stand Down 2016 sock drive.  We wanted to share her thanks with our library users, especially those that donated.

Thank you for supporting the 2016 Socks For Stand Down.  We had a successful drive, and with the help of the Law Library patrons and the San Diego Area Law Librarians we delivered 2500 pairs of socks for our veterans and their families.

Socks for Stand Down was started in 2015  by California State Assembly member Toni G Atkins, Speaker Emeritus, after local Stand Down organizers expressed a need for socks and underwear for homeless veterans attending Stand Down.  Stand Down events are one to three-day events providing supplies and services to homeless Veterans, such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings and VA Social Security benefits counseling. Veterans also receive referrals to other assistance such as health care, housing solutions, employment, substance use treatment and mental health counseling.

Have a question or concern you would like to share with the Speaker Emeritus?  A representative from Toni Atkins’ district office will be here for Mobile Office Hours on Tuesday, August 23, from 4 to 5 pm.  No appointment necessary.
