September Update – Library Finances Continue to Fall

The vast majority of our funding comes from filing fees, and this funding has declined by over 38% from 2008 to 2015.
During the fiscal year that ended in June, it declined over 5% more from last year. This fiscal year, we are expecting another decline of 3 to 4%. Even though this is a smaller drop than in prior years, the fact is law library revenues continue to fall.
These declines in revenue have caused reduced hours at library branches, fewer staff over-all, and the cancellation of electronic databases like Westlaw, along with numerous print titles.
