We are pleased to announce the Honorable Rachel Cano as the newest Law Library trustee. Judge Cano replaces the Honorable Joseph Brannigan.

Judge Cano was appointed to the Superior Court by Governor Jerry Brown in December 2016. Currently, she presides over a division of the family court in the Central Division of the San Diego Superior Court.

Prior to being appointed to the court, Judge Cano was a prosecutor in the San Diego District Attorney’s Office. There, she handled a variety of assignments, including being the point person for the Human Trafficking laws introduced in 2006, prosecuting sexual assault cases, and acting as the Chief of the South Bay Branch Office.

Judge Cano is very involved in the San Diego community. She has served as the Secretary, Vice-President, and a member of the President’s Advisory Board for Lawyers Club of San Diego. In 2010, she was appointed to the San Diego County Commission on the Status of Women & Girls, where she served as Commissioner and then Chairperson. And, she co-founded the non-profit organization San Diego Professionals Against Cancer (SDPAC), which raises funds for cancer research, patient treatment, and services through fundraising events, such as the San Diego Festival of Beer. And, in her spare time, she is involved in a variety of mentoring programs, including a 10-week empowerment course for elementary school students.

Judge Cano began her service in April 2020, and joins:
