The ban on plastic bags might become a landmark law in California if Governor Jerry Brown signs Senate Bill No. 270 into law before the end of September. This bill eliminates single-use plastic bags at grocery stores and pharmacies. In addition, $2 million in loans would be distributed to plastic bag manufacturers to make reusable grocery bags that customers could buy. Environmentalists have lent their support to this bill, but bag manufacturers fear this measure would lead to a loss of jobs in the factories.
