Save the Dates for Fall MCLEs

Here in Southern California we don’t have many falling leaves, but we do have fall MCLEs! We have some fantastic speakers and now is a great time to beat the rush and register. Each class provides one hour of general MCLE credit.

 

PACE Lending Program: The Next Subprime Mortgage Crisis

Property Assessed Clean Energy Programs (PACE) offer long-term private financing for renewable energy and energy efficiency upgrades to homes and businesses. What was intended to be a win for the environment and property owners has turned into a problematic financing program (some would even call predatory lending) with contractors soliciting homeowners and lenders initiating judicial foreclosures on the first missed payment. Californians have received over $2 billion in PACE financing. It is the fastest growing form of financing in the country, leading some to believe that PACE is the next subprime mortgage crisis.

What to Avoid When Creating an Estate Plan

This class will provide an overview of some common mistakes in estate planning that can lead to problems and disputes when the estate is administered. Judge Julia Kelety will share her insight on this subject based on her experience as a Probate Court judge.

2019: The Year the Supreme Court “Workshopped” Anti-SLAPP

In less than six months this year, the California Supreme Court unanimously decided five Anti-SLAPP cases. And it still had time to hand down significant decisions on local police powers, third party beneficiaries in contracts, pleading class actions, waiving governmental immunity, tax authority of charter cities, and economic loss damages. We will discuss each of these cases and what the justices were so eager to instruct us about Anti-SLAPP.
