Renee Stackhouse, Esq., Witkin Honoree for Community Changemaker

Renee Stackhouse, Esq., is the 2019 Witkin Award Honoree for Community Changemaker. The Witkin Awards are presented annually to honor members of the San Diego legal community for civil leadership and excellence in the practice of law, adjudication of the law, public service, and as a community changemaker. Join us October 17th, from 5 pm to 8 pm to honor this year’s recipients

 

Renee Stackhouse is a trial lawyer in San Diego with a practice focusing on plaintiff’s personal injury, military, and criminal defense. She is recognized for her understanding of military processes and protocols, and the nuances involved in representing service members stemming of ten years’ experience as a civilian employee working in Marine Corps Community Services at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Renee was the first woman to teach the Advanced Trial Advocacy Course at the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General School. She is board certified in Civil Trial Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

 

Stackhouse is a champion of causes related to civil rights, diversity and inclusion, and equal rights for women. She is past President of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Alumni Association, where she spearheaded a video to support the students featuring high profile alumni entitled, “You Can Succeed”; past President of the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, where she worked closely with the San Diego Police Department to create bilingual videos addressing concerns regarding racial profiling and discourteous treatment with an anti-racial profiling public service announcement; and in 2018 served as President of California Women Lawyers. She created a national award-winning program, “Elect to Run”, encouraging women to run for office. She serves as Chair of California Lawyers Association’s Solo & Small Firm Section; President of the CWL Foundation; Vice President of the San Diego County Bar Association Board of Directors, where she chairs the Programs, Education & Technology Committee; and, as the Mothers in Court Committee co-chair for the National Association of Women Judges. She recently created “MSheLE”, an online service providing quality continuing legal education to lawyers geared towards issues women face in the profession. We are pleased to honor Renee Stackhouse as our 2019 Community Changemaker.

 

Join us for a wonderful evening at this year’s Witkin Awards. The awards will be presented at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse, starting at 5:00 pm with cocktails. Dinner follows from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The Witkin Award Ceremony is the primary fundraiser of the San Diego Law Library Foundation.
