Registration Open for the Witkin Awards Virtual Reception on Thurs., 10/8
We are excited to announce that the San Diego Law Library Foundation now opened the registration for the 2020 Witkin Awards Virtual Reception! Over the past 25 years, the Foundation has held the annual Witkin Award Reception in various locations in San Diego, but this year will be the first year the event will be held online with a suggested donation of $100 to support the San Diego Law Library.
The Witkin Awards are presented annually to honor members of the San Diego legal community for civic leadership and excellence in education, public service, practice and adjudication of the law. And, this year is the 25th anniversary of the Bernard E. Witkin Awards. The namesake of the award, Bernard E. Witkin, had a nearly 70-year legal career that included an impressive range of activities that took place as the law of California was experiencing exponential growth in both size and complexity. Witkin’s impact on California’s law, and on the law of other states, was enormous and, he was a tireless advocate for legal reform. And, this year’s nominees are no less impressive.
The 2020 Witkin Award Honorees are:
- The Honorable William B. Enright (Posthumous), U.S. District Court, Southern District of California, for Excellence in the Adjudication of the Law,
- Vickie E. Turner, Esq., Wilson Turner Kosmo, LLP, for Excellence in the Practice of Law,
- Gregory E. Knoll, Esq., Executive Director, Legal Aid Society of San Diego, for Excellence in Public Service, and
- Lilys D. McCoy, Esq., Deputy City Attorney, City of San Diego, and Adjunct Professor, Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
The San Diego Law Library Foundation is organized as a charitable trust affiliated with the San Diego Law Library. The sole mission of the Foundation is to aid the Law Library in our efforts to provide access to justice through our many resources and programs. The Foundation is recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization established for scientific and educational purposes by the IRS. We are so excited that the Law Library Foundation is able to continue the Witkin Awards tradition during these difficult times, and we hope to see you at the event on October 8th!
