Persuading Trial Court Judges MCLE Wed., Jan. 20
Date: Wednesday, January 20, 2021
Time: 12:00 to 1:00 pm
Location: Online Webinar
MCLE: One Hour of General Participatory MCLE
About the Event
In the Pulitzer prize-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross, Blake makes the seminal (if NSFW) speech advising salespeople to “ABC: Always. Be. Closing.”
We can translate this mantra into the legal realm by adapting the statement to “ABP: Always. Be. Persuading.” A large part of legal writing is persuading the court to see things your way. This persuasion begins with the first filing and ends with the final judgment (barring appeal, of course).
In this highly interactive presentation, you will learn how to maximize every section of your filing, including the headings, to convince the court to rule in your favor. The presentation will focus on how to
- Present a written argument using effective introductions;
- Recognize over-wordy and succinctly written arguments;
- Write an argument meeting trial judge expectations;
- Present a written argument using effective topic headings;
- Present a written argument using effective fact statements.
