Every year libraries, museums, archives, and other cultural institutions celebrate Preservation Week. This week is all about preserving our cultural heritage. Here at the law library, we preserve a lot of stuff. Some of the most popular things we preserve are the California codes. We have them going back to 1850, and when I say we have them, I mean, when a new volume comes in, we preserve the old one. When new pocket parts come in each year, we preserve the old ones. We have the California codes. But that’s really just the tip of the iceberg. Got an old Witkin citation? Yeah, we can use a table to get you into the new one, but if you want to know what he was saying in the old one, we’ve got that too. We also have a collection of photographs and other items related to San Diego’s legal history. You can find some of this on display at our Downtown location’s 3rd floor History Wall.
But the coolest thing about Preservation Week? It’s also about regular, everyday people preserving their own history. This is a great time to take a moment to learn a bit about how to preserve your own family’s treasures, memories, and keepsakes. Check out the Preservation Week website for some really great information!
