The San Diego Superior Court offers a “One Day Divorce” pilot program at the Downtown Family Courthouse. The program is available to self-represented litigants who have no contested divorce issues. Eligibility for the program is determined by answering a series of questions on the court’s website.

Eligible litigants must have filed for dissolution of marriage at least six months ago, and the case must be ready for judgment. A case is ready for judgment when the Petition for Dissolution of Marriage and Summons is served on the Respondent, the Proof of Service of Summons or the Response is filed with the court, and an agreement on all orders to be included in the judgment are reached. At this point, the litigants meet with a family law expert who discusses the terms of the proposed divorce settlement agreement or default judgment process. Next, the litigants complete the forms to finalize the divorce. If all the forms are complete, the litigants appear in court and receive their final judgment on the same day.
