Announcing the 2019 Law Library Executive Board
The San Diego Law Library is pleased to announce the Executive Board for 2019:
- President: Mara W. Elliott, San Diego City Attorney
- Vice-President: The Honorable Joseph P. Brannigan, San Diego Superior Court
- Treasure: Lorena Slomanson, Director of Development for Legal Aid Society of San Diego
- Secretary: Jeffrey Cawdrey, Esq. Partner; Gordon & Rees LLP
Board Members volunteer their time to ensure the smooth running of the San Diego Law Library.
“We are delighted that these amazing Trustees have volunteered their time to run the Law Library,” said Law Library Director John Adkins.
Other Law Library Board of Trustees members include: Judge David Berry; Judge David Gill, Judge Julia Kelety and Judge Truc Do.
Mara Elliott (President)
Mara Elliott serves as the San Diego City Attorney. Elliott is the first woman, and first Latina, to serve as City Attorney in San Diego’s history. Prior to joining the city, she was a Senior Deputy County Counsel, where she advised the County of San Diego’s Finance and General Government Group, Public Safety Group, Community Services Groups, and Health and Human Services Agency. She also served as Deputy General Counsel to the San Diego Metropolitan Transit Development Board, where she advised on the expansion of public transit. A long-time community leader, President Elliott works to advance the status of women in the law, and was honored as Advocate of the Year for her work for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Judge Joseph P. Brannigan (Vice-President)
Judge Brannigan has spent his entire career in public service, and served as an Army Officer, FBI Agent, Deputy District Attorney, and Assistant US Attorney. He moved to San Diego in 1986 to join the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. Judge Brannigan is a member of The San Diego County and Federal Bar Associations, as well as The Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI.
Jeffrey D. Cawdrey (Secretary)
Jeffrey D. Cawdrey, partner in Gordon & Rees’s San Diego office and national co-chair of its Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Creditors’ Rights practice group, was elected Secretary. Mr. Cawdrey has held several leadership positions on the Law Library Board of Trustees, including Vice President and three years as President.
Lorena Slomanson (Treasurer)
Lorena Slomanson is Director of Development with the Legal Aid Society of San Diego. A native San Diegan, Ms. Slomanson received her J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where she serves on the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. Prior to entering the field of public interest law, she enjoyed a diverse civil litigation practice focusing on personal injury and consumer protection. Ms. Slomanson has been recognized for her commitment to access to justice by the Board of Governors of the State Bar of California and by the Legal Aid Society.
