The COVID-19 pandemic has changed both criminal and civil federal practice in San Diego. Leaders of the Federal Bar Association, San Diego Chapter, will discuss the changes in procedures for the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California from the practitioner’s point of view.
This session will cover:
- Current criminal and civil procedures and practices
- Technological adaptions
- Resumption of jury trials and in-person hearings
About the Speakers
David Finn has served as the President of the Federal Bar Association, San Diego Chapter since January 2020. He is an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division, where he has tried dozens of federal criminal jury trials and argued cases in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In 2014, he was awarded the Department of Justice’s Director’s Award for Superior Performance. In 2015, he received the national Federal Bar Association’s Young Lawyer Award. He is a frequent instructor at the Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center where he teaches trial advocacy. He is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego and California Western School of Law.
Rebecca Church is the President-Elect of the Federal Bar Association, San Diego Chapter. She has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California since 2015. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Rebecca was an Associate Attorney at Duane Morris LLP, where she practiced in the commercial and employment groups. She served as a Judicial Law Clerk for two federal judges and is a Lawyer Representative to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
