In celebration of Lincoln’s birthday, all locations of the Law Library will be closed tomorrow.

Many people greatly revere and admire Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. One of his greatest achievements was to preserve the Union despite the outbreak of the American Civil War. During the War, he delivered one of the most famous speeches in American history, the Gettysburg Address.

Abraham Lincoln is also famous for abolishing slavery. In 1863, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to free slaves in the Confederate States, and he promoted the passage of the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime.
