The Law Library has selected several new books for our collection to help you delve deeper into the themes of Law & Comics 2017, the Business of Comics, and learn about our special guests.

We chose Batman Beyond: Hush Beyond as a sample of special guest Ryan Benjamin’s artistic style. Guest Rob Salkowitz is a consultant and reporter covering many pop culture fields. His Comic-Con and the Business of Pop-Culture uses San Diego Comic-Con as a lens to explore trends in business and pop-culture.

In addition, the following books explore different aspects of the comics business. Sean Howe’s Marvel Comics: The Untold Story describes how Marvel Comics grew from a middling comic publisher that was struggling to stay open in the early 1960s to the idea factory that Disney bought for $4 billion. The Pocket Lawyer for Comic Book Creators by Thomas Crowell is designed to be a one-volume legal and business resource for any comic creator. Jason Brubaker’s Unnatural Talent describes his 5-year path from not being able to sell one copy of his self-published comic to self-publishing 2 graphic novels, running a successful Kickstarter campaign, and winning recognition from the American Library Association.

Drop by our Downtown location to see these and more graphic novels and books about the comics business.
