That right! Our friends at Legal Aid Society’s Low Income Taxpayer Clinic are returning to the law library by appointment only! The appointments will take place at the Downtown location of the law library on Wednesday, May 26th, between 1 pm and 3 pm.

This clinic assists low-income taxpayers with IRS wage garnishments, bank levies, audits, EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) denials, negotiated settlements, and other tax issues. You can contact the Legal Aid Society of San Diego at 1-877-LEGAL-AID (534-2524) or complete their online form to schedule your appointment.

This clinic does not assist in the preparation of federal or state income tax returns. But, you CAN receive assistance with your federal and state income taxes through two programs by the IRS. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program can help qualified applicants. Additionally, if you are over the age of 60, then you can tax advantage of the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program.  You can find a tax assistance provider near you on this IRS website.

These clinics are just one of the many resources that we have made available to help you with your legal education during the COVID-19 crisis. Check out our ClassesLegal Databases, and COVID-19 Legal Issues pages for more information! If you have any questions about our services, please contact us by emailtelephone, or Virtual Front Desk (weekdays between 2 pm and 4 pm). Or, you can sign up for an appointment for a telephone call with a reference librarian or to visit us in person at the library.
