Help a Vet with Socks for Stand Down 2016

By Kelly on May 09, 2016//Leave a comment

We will be collecting new, unused socks at our Downtown and Vista locations from May 15 through June 15, to be donated to Socks for Stand Down 2016.  Socks for Stand Down was started in 2015  by California State Assembly member Toni G Atkins, Speaker Emeritus, after local Stand Down organizers expressed a need for socks and underwear for homeless veterans attending Stand Down.

Held under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Stand Down events are one to three-day events providing supplies and services to homeless veterans, such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings and VA Social Security benefits counseling. Veterans also receive referrals to other assistance such as health care, housing solutions, employment, substance abuse treatment, and mental health counseling.

Stand Down San Diego is a collaborative event, coordinated between the local VA Medical Center, other government agencies and community-based homeless service providers.  Stand Down San Diego will be held July 22-24.  Click here for more information or to volunteer for Stand Down San Diego.
