Great news for the federal judiciary! The spending bill for fiscal year 2014, passed by Congress, allows the judiciary to fill some of the staff vacancies left by budget cuts. In the past few years, the federal courts have lost more than 3,200 personnel positions in the clerks’ offices, probation and pretrial services offices. Last year, many public defender positions were lost too.

Now, with this fiscal year’s budget, the judiciary plans to hire 400 staff positions in defender organizations within the next two years. We are celebrating this fantastic news and hope that this trend continues. Read here for more information.
