This week we are offering the final two MCLE webinars of 2021 for FREE! Our final webinars are on our topic of the year: Border Law. Each year, we give special focus to an area of law intrinsic to the fabric of San Diego county’s culture, history, and modern day life. For the year 2020-2021, our focus is on Border Law so, we are offering two FREE MCLE classes that address legal issues specific to our border city.

Wed., Dec. 15, 2021: The Fourth Amendment and the Border (One Hour General Participatory Credit): This presentation will provide an overview of Fourth Amendment search and seizure doctrine in the border context. Following a discussion of key border search precedent, we will also review recent cases involving personal electronic device searches and considerations for cross-border travel with privileged or otherwise sensitive information. Speaker Mitra Ebadolahi is a Senior Staff Attorney at the ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties and a Lecturer-in-Law at University of California, Irvine School of Law.

Friday, Dec. 17, 2021: Asylum at the Southern Border (One Hour General Participatory Credit): Families and individuals attempting to seek asylum in the U.S. along its southern border have been impacted by U.S. asylum law restrictions and government policies aiming to deter asylum seekers. This program will discuss the Biden administration’s use of Title 42, the restart of the Migrant Protection Protocols, and expedited removal which are among the policies having a humanitarian and legal impact on the lives of asylum seekers aiming to exercise their right to asylum. Legal options will be discussed to advocate and provide legal assistance to families and individuals to attempt to overcome these barriers. Speaker Margaret Cargioli is Managing Attorney of the Cross-Border Initiative (CBI) program at Immigrant Defenders Law Center based in San Diego, California.
