We are proud to announce that our Downtown Location is an official drop-off location for Skivvies for Stand Down 2019! Now through June 24th, we will be collecting new, unused underwear, bras, and undershirts for Stand Down participants, their spouses, and their children. Skivvies for Stand Down is an offshoot of Socks for Stand Down, which was started in 2015 by Senator Toni G. Atkins after local Stand Down organizers expressed a need for socks and underwear for homeless veterans attending Stand Down.

The Downtown Location is also an intake site for Stand Down 2019, and will be assisting veterans and their spouses with Stand Down 2019 applications until Wednesday, June 19th.

San Diego’s 32nd Annual Stand Down event will be held June 28th through 30th. Stand Down San Diego is a collaborative event, sponsored by Veterans Village of San Diego. Under the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Stand Down events are one to three-day events providing supplies and services to homeless Veterans, such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings and VA Social Security benefits counseling. Veterans also receive referrals to other assistance such as health care, housing solutions, employment, substance use treatment and mental health counseling. During this program over 3,000 volunteers and 150 service providers provide assistance to over 800 homeless veterans and their families living in San Diego County. Veterans Village San Diego originated the Stand Down event and their model has been copied by veterans organizations all over the country.

San Diego is home to over 240,000 military veterans and the Law Library has designated Military Law as this year’s topic of the year. Each year we give special focus to an area of law intrinsic to the fabric of San Diego County’s culture, history, and modern day life. During the year, we will focus on resources for veterans, legal services, and military laws. Also, check out our Military Law guide which features resources available on a variety of legal topics related to veterans and active duty military.
