I know that many of you are asking, “What is election redistricting and why should I care?”

Election redistricting is the process of drawing electoral district maps and it has a huge impact on the outcome of elections. Once election districts are drawn, voters in each district elect one representative to represent them in the U.S. House of Representatives, California State Assembly, or the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.

Redistricting has become a hot button issue. How the districts are drawn can impact representation in local, state, and federal lawmaking. Your election districts are based upon the information gathered once a decade by the U.S. Census Bureau. Currently, election districts are being redrawn based on the 2020 Census Report.

Here in San Diego County the San Diego County Independent Redistricting Commission is responsible for redrawing the boundaries of the County’s Supervisorial Districts.

This informative webinar will talk about the redistricting process and will include information about the Commission and how County residents can get involved and provide input.
