The San Diego Law Library Board of Trustees proclaimed July 21, 2021, Amy Fitzpatrick Day in recognition of Amy Fitzpatrick’s decades long dedication to providing access to justice to the people of San Diego County. Fitzpatrick, the Chief Executive Officer of San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, is retiring at the end of July.
The Law Library feels very grateful to have worked with Fitzpatrick on our shared mission to provide equal access to the justice system for the people of San Diego County. Fitzpatrick has dedicated her professional life to providing access to justice for thousands of undeserved people and protect their rights. She began her work with SDVLP in 2002 as a staff attorney and became the Chief Executive Officer in 2005, a position she has held for the last 16 years. Through Fitzpatrick’s tireless work and leadership, SDVLP has helped thousands of low-income residents of San Diego County receive free legal assistance for civil matters by serving as a bridge between people in need and lawyers willing to volunteer their time and resources.
The partnership created by Fitzpatrick and Law Library Director John Adkins has offered free legal clinics in Family Law and Landlord/Tenant Law, provided educational seminars with expert speakers on a variety of legal subjects, and staffed and managed a premiere civil legal clinic in the Law Library. The San Diego Law Library Foundation honored Fitzpatrick in 2015 with the prestigious Bernard E. Witkin Award for Excellence in Civil Leadership and Philanthropy for her outstanding contributions to the Law Library and the people of San Diego.
We join SDVLP in celebrating Fitzpatrick’s many accomplishments. We will miss her greatly and wish her well in the next chapter of her life.
