San Diego’s beaches are a destination for thousands of people each year. While you enjoy our beautiful Pacific sunsets, do you wonder about the laws that govern our coastal experience?  Where is it legal to have a bonfire ? Can I enjoy a refreshing alcoholic beverage while relaxing in my beach chair? How can I protect my beachfront property from erosion? And what about these electric scooters on the boardwalk?!?! We are offering a pair of FREE classes that talk about the laws, rules, and regulations that govern the laws of the beach.

Beach Law I is taking place on Thursday, July 25th, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. During this class Senior Park Ranger Karolynn Estrada Sparlin, Sargent Rick Strobel from Lifeguard Services, and Officer Jeremy Huff from the San Diego Police Department will inform you on current regulations and answer your questions on beach issues.

Beach Law II will take place on Friday, August 9th, from 12:00 pm to 1:00. This class will discuss land use laws in the coastal zone. Speaker James “Jim” P. Lough will discuss how public rights to access the beach are balanced with personal property rights. Mr. Lough has practiced municipal law for over 37 years, and has worked as the City Attorney for Hermosa Beach, Imperial Beach, and Solana Beach.

Both classes will take place at our Downtown Location and provide one hour of General Participatory MCLE Credit. These classes are very popular and do fill up, so reserve your space TODAY.
