In 2010, Congress passed the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Among other things, Dodd-Frank introduced a new independent Federal agency, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), to protect consumers and the U. S. economy from dangerous financial products. The Bureau formulated new mortgage rules which transformed everything relating to mortgage lending. This MCLE will discuss the new mortgage rules including the ability to pay rule, qualified mortgages, higher cost mortgage rules, the new TILA-RESPA disclosure rules, and their application to loans, credit transactions, and lenders.
