Active Duty and Veterans Clinics Coming in September

By Kelly on August 03, 2018//Leave a comment

We are proud to be the new home at least through December for the Active Duty Military/Reserve and Veterans Self Help Workshops. Starting this September, the Law Library will be partnering with Thomas Jefferson School of Law to host these vital workshops. They will be held at our Downtown location.

Active Duty Military/Reserve Information

The Active Duty Military/Reserve workshop will be held on the first Thursday of each month. The first one will be September 6. This workshop provides legal assistance for San Diego’s Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, and their spouses. You can receive general assistance and direction regarding legal questions/issues. In the thirty-minute consultation with a licensed California attorney and a law student you can discuss your legal needs and review documents, get help with filling out documents, and learn how to move forward with your case. The workshop can help in areas such as landlord-tenant, wills and trusts, family law, and reviewing legal documents such as car purchases and leases or rental property contracts.

Veterans Information

The Veterans workshop will be held on the third Thursday of each month. The first one will be September 20. Volunteer licensed attorneys and law students provide veterans with a half-hour consultation. They can provide assistance with reviewing court-related forms and/or assistance completing court-related forms. The workshop provides legal advice in a variety of legal areas, including, but not limited to, social security benefits, child support, divorce, and general civil matters.

These workshops do require advance reservations and they do not accept walk-ins. You can make a reservation for either workshop by calling 619-961-4369.

Military Law is our topic of the year. We will have MCLE programs on military issues, articles on library and community resources, and news about this evolving area of the law. Our goal is to provide information and resources to the community on these important issues. All events and news will be announced via this newsletter and on our website.
