Margaret A. Dalton has been selected to receive the prestigious Witkin Award for Excellence in Legal Education. The Witkin Awards are presented annually to honor members of the San Diego legal community for civic leadership and excellence in the practice of the law, adjudication of the law, legal education, and the advancement of access to justice. Join us Thursday, October 4, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm to honor this year’s recipients.

Margaret A. Dalton is the Associate Dean and a Professor of Law at USD School of Law. She was named dean in 2016.  Previously, she was the Director of the USD Legal Clinics for twelve years. During that time, Dalton doubled the number of clinics that help serve the need for free legal services for the most vulnerable members of the San Diego community. In 2003, she created the Education & Disability Clinic with a Discretionary Award from the California Endowment. She has trained hundreds of law students through the legal clinics, many of whom work in the fields where they had their clinical experience.

Dalton regularly gives educational presentations around the county, to students at UCSD and SDSU, and to non-profit organizations such as the Foundation for Autism Research. She speaks on topics ranging from special education to tips at succeeding in graduate and law school.  Margaret A. Dalton is setting the bar among legal educators. We are proud to be able to recognize her for her accomplishments and her continuing dedication to legal education.

Join us for a wonderful evening at this year’s Witkin Awards. The awards will be presented at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse, starting at 5:00 pm with cocktails. Dinner and comedian Mark Christopher Lawrence follow from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The Witkin Award Ceremony is the primary fundraiser of the San Diego Law Library Foundation.
