Law and Comics: Coming to the Defense of Comics

By Kelly on July 03, 2013//Leave a comment

The San Diego Law Library is celebrating the fourth year of our popular Lindley Law and Comics event. This year, the theme is Censorship: From 1950’s Superheroes to Today’s Manga.

Join us at our renovated Downtown San Diego location, 1105 Front Street, on Tuesday, July 16 from noon to 1 pm for an interactive discussion with Charles Brownstein, Executive Director of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, a raffle drawing, and more. Seating is limited so RSVP early to: 619 531-3900 or http://lawcomics2013july16.eventbrite.com to ensure your attendance.

We are excited to have added several new books to the library’s collection that deal with comic book censorship or have been censored. The books include Ten Ten-Cent Plague, The Horror, The Horror, Persepolis, and Maus.  The new books will be on display at our downtown location during the month leading up to Law & Comics.

All attendees will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of three prizes:  1) the collector’s edition book: Comic-Con, 40 Years of Artists, Writers, Fans and Friends, produced by Comic-Con and designed and published by Chronicle Books;  2) Superhero smart phone cover; 3) Mophie juice pack plus for iPhone 4/4s.

Attendees will hear dramatic stories, gain valuable First Amendment knowledge, and attorneys will earn one (1) hour of participatory MCLE credit.
